Synopsis

A newly translated edition of a Russian esoteric classic that guides readers through developing their supersensory perception of the spiritual realm

First written in 1906 by Russian religious philosopher, playwright, and statesman Mitrofan Vasilyevich Lodyzhensky, this book guides readers through the steps one must take to reconnect with the spiritual realm. Through a comparison of Western occultism, Raja Yoga, and Christian mysticism Superconsciousness and the Ways to Achieve It will assist readers in developing their supersensory perception.

Even in the early twentieth century, Lodyzhensky recognised the moral and spiritual failings a world and society that had succumbed to atheism and materialism. Drawing on a range of different theologies and worldviews, he argues that relying on the blind faith of our ancestors is not the way forward, and instead outlines an experimental approach to spirituality, fit for modern times: if only people could evolve to perceive the spiritual realm, their worldview has the potential transform completely.

As relevant today as it was one-hundred years ago, Superconsciousness and the Ways to Achieve It will be of interest to any student or practitioner of the magical arts, or anyone interested in broadening their understanding of the world, and what might lie just out of sight.

Yury Pankratov’s translation remains as sharp, clear, and accessible as ever as he continues to cement his essential role in uncovering the lost classics of Russia’s esoteric past.

About the author

By (author) Mitrofan Lodyzhensky

Mitrofan Vasilyevich Lodyzhensky (1852–1917) was a Russian writer and religious philosopher. After a respected career in imperial administration, he turned to writing. His main work, the Mystical Trilogy (Superconsciousness, Light Invisible, and Dark Power), examines ways to open the gates of spiritual perception, the dangers of false enlightenment, and the path to true inner knowledge. Written during a period of great interest in occultism and esotericism, the trilogy examines and criticizes Western occultism, yoga, and theosophy, and highlights the value of Orthodox Christian mysticism. Lodyzhensky’s works were widely read during his life and influenced both his peers and later thinkers in mystical and philosophical literature. This made him a unique and lasting figure in Russian religious thought.

Translated by Yury Pankratov

Yury Pankratov, a native of Russia, earned his PhD in Computer Science before developing an interest in Western esotericism. His journey into the occult began in 2012, inspired by the writings of John Michael Greer, who was then the Grand Archdruid of the Ancient Order of Druids in America. This led Yury to study ceremonial magic, particularly the Golden Dawn tradition, as well as Hermetic sciences like astrology and alchemy. In 2015, Yury relocated to the United States, where he now lives with his wife, Anastasia.
