Synopsis

Rediscover the forgotten disciplines and lost arts that shaped history’s greatest thinkers

In an age that increasingly seeks to replace human thought with machines, renowned esoteric thinker John Michael Greer offers a powerful alternative: a practical guide for cultivating the mind, and for mental self-empowerment.

Drawing on the intellectual, artistic and philosophical traditions of the Renaissance — the period in which western culture claimed some of its greatest achievements and made breakthroughs that changed the world — Renaissance Mind Training revives the methods that were once vital to some history's greatest thinkers, and that in more modern times have been simply abandoned. These time-tested techniques, refined over centuries of practice, offer a path towards greater clarity, creativity, concentration, and independent thought.

Within these pages, readers will discover instruction in a wide range of foundational disciplines, including the art of close reading, the commonplace book, the art of meditation, the art of memory, the art of combinations, logic, rhetoric, and much more. Together, these practices form a complete system for strengthening intellect and expanding the power of the mind.

Renaissance Mind Training uncovers a methedology that shaped some of the most influential minds in western history, and will undoubtedly inspire readers to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery and creativity, reclaiming these enduring practices for themselves. Whether seeking greater intellectual discipline, enhanced creativity, or a deeper capacity for independent thinking, readers will find a rewarding path to lifelong mental development through this book.
